(Last UPDATED 11/26/2020)  The Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour, a popular event featuring professionally decorated homes in the Fab Forties of East Sacramento, is going virtual in 2020!  2020 is the 47th Anniversary of the home tour.

The free virtual home tour will go live the weekend of December 12-13.  Links will be provided on the Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour website.

This year the event will feature four homes – a craftsman, a cottage, a modern farmhouse, and a bungalow all decorated for the holidays.

(12/4/17)  Description of the annual Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour, a popular three-day event featuring professionally decorated homes in the Fab Forties of East Sacramento.

To say that the Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour is wildly popular is an understatement!  Spending part of a day on the self-guided home tour is an excellent way to get into the holiday spirit. The event benefits the students of the Sacred Heart Parish School.

The homes featured on the tour are generally located in the Fab 40's – similar to the East Sacramento Garden Tour held each year over the Mother's Day weekend.  My plan of action was to walk to the home most distant and then make my way towards home – just as my daughter and I have done over the years on Mother's Day.  See related post:  East Sacramento Garden Tour

Local designers are tapped to decorate each home on the tour.  Attendees not only have the opportunity to enjoy the beautifully decorated homes, but also to make note of the many clever decorating ideas utilized that can be replicated at home.

The day started out overcast, but the sun was out when I started to make my way to 47th Street.  It was a beautiful day and I had the opportunity to enjoy the many trees sporting fall foliage and the homes along the way all decked out for the holidays.

47th Street

When I arrived at the Tudor-style 47th Street home there was a line to enter – and the same was true for each home on the tour.  However, I was in no hurry and the wait was never very long.  The 47th Street home had a Nutcracker Ballet themed design.  The kitchen counter was "dressed" in a pink tutu that extended to the floor.

44th Street

The next two homes on the tour were on 42nd Street.  I, however, made a small detour on 44th Street to take a picture of the beautiful "blue" home that was featured in the movie "Lady Bird".  Lady Bird was both written and directed by Sacramento-native Greta Gerwig.  See related post: Lady Bird – A Sacramento Love Letter

42nd Street

Afterwards I made my way to 42nd Street.  The first home I visited on 42nd Street was a bungalow-style home.  On the front porch a fiddle player was playing Christmas music, and the interior decoration was designed to evoke a simple country Christmas.

The second home on 42nd Street had an interesting backstory – it was modeled after a train depot for the original owners.  The home was decorated throughout with all things white and cream.

40th Street

The next two homes were both located on 40th Street.  The first, a remodeled Craftsman-style home, had a winter sleigh in the front yard and the interior was decorated in classic holiday colors.  The second home on 40th Street was a remodeled cottage.  The theme was "California Christmas" with some added sparkle.

39th Street

My last stop was a Cottage-style home on 39th Street.  I had passed by the home on my way to 47th Street knowing that it would be my last stop.  I was glad to see that the length of the line was much shorter than earlier in the day.

After leaving the 39th Street home I continued down the street and stopped by the Sacred Heart Parish School to visit the Holiday Cafe and Boutique.  Both the cafe and boutique appeared to be doing a brisk business.  I then headed home.

All-in-all, it was a very pleasant way to spend part of a beautiful sunny day in Sacramento – with the added bonus of getting in some exercise.
